Prospects for expanding cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were discussed

On 28 August this year, a meeting between the heads of the State Assets Management Agency and the office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Uzbekistan was held.

Akmalhon Ortikov, director of UzSAMA, emphasised that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has become a strategic partner for sustainable development of Uzbekistan, and the proof of positive results of cooperation was the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held in Samarkand this year.

At the same time, the EBRD's active participation in reforming the system of state asset management was noted, in particular, in the development of the Law "On State Property Management", which has become the fundamental legal basis for the management of enterprises with state participation, as well as dividend policy, code of ethics and other documents of importance in the direction of corporate governance.

It was emphasised, that Alkis Drakinos, Head of the EBRD Country Office in Uzbekistan, has played a significant role in the substantial positive change in relations between Uzbekistan and the EBRD and in expanding the scope of cooperation. On the occasion of his transition to another job, he was wished further success, high achievements and results in his new position.

During his speech, Director of UzSAMA Akmalhon Ortikov sincerely congratulated Andi Aranitasi on his appointment as Head of EBRD in Uzbekistan from 1 September this year, wished him success in launching mutually beneficial cooperation between EBRD and the Government of Uzbekistan and, taking into account the existing opportunities, successful implementation of new projects and further acceleration of cooperation.

Accordingly, Alkis Drakinos stated that the scale and importance of the projects implemented by UzSAMA are really important for the development of the country, and the co-operation relations with the new Head of the EBRD in Uzbekistan will continue to develop rapidly.

In turn, Andi Aranitasi highly appreciated the work carried out by UzSAMA, including the results achieved in the field of privatisation, and expressed readiness to cooperate in the implementation of any prospective projects.

The parties also discussed in detail the mechanisms of acceleration of current projects and joint actions implemented in co-operation, and agreed to continue active collaboration in order to jointly develop new perspective initiatives.
